Acts Chapter 13

[0:00] If you will look at your sheet now, we are on page 514 down in the lower left hand corner and we are in Acts chapter 13. The sheet you have before you is a photocopy of the 26th translation New Testament.

[0:17] And that simply means that various translations have been pulled in and incorporated in the text verse by verse so as to give a little bit of a variant reading.

[0:29] And they are abbreviated. If you will look at the sheet, you will see several of the verses that are printed in bold black type.

[0:40] That bold type is the King James Version. And that is the base version. And then right below it, you get, for instance, if you are looking down at the bottom of the page in Acts 13, page 514, you will see on the right hand side, verse 12, says, Then the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed.

[1:04] And then right below that, there are other translations that are abbreviated. This is the Rhames Version. TCNT is 20th Century New Testament.

[1:15] MOF is Moffat's Translation. RIEU is Rue's Translation. It just gives a little bit different rendering that puts the same phrase in a little different order that sometimes if one doesn't grab you, another will.

[1:31] So what we are talking about is the Apostle Paul has launched his first missionary journey. He began from Antioch, Syria. This is where he was going to begin all of his missionary journeys.

[1:46] It's starting from, it's interesting to note that Christianity and the spreading of it did not start in Jerusalem. It started in Antioch of Syria. And later on in the book of Acts, we will read that they were called Christians first.

[2:01] First time the term was ever used was in Antioch, Syria. And it was Syria that is the country of which Damascus is the capital.

[2:12] And this is where Saul of Tarsus was en route when Jesus Christ, resurrected and glorified, confronted him on the road to Damascus.

[2:23] And there he underwent a spiritual conversion. And... ... ... ...
